Welcome to our P6/7 class page! 

We're looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, discovery and fun. Here on our page, you'll find updates on what we've been learning in class, photos of projects and activities and important dates of upcoming events. 

Numeracy

In Numeracy this term we will be completing a variety of lessons on:

• Place Value
• Addition and subtraction
• Multiplication and Division
• Fractions

We will also be spending the first half term revising our times tables - specifically focusing on building our accuracy and speed. We will be using activities such as Mental Minute, Freckle and Quick 6.

Literacy

In Literacy we will be looking at a range of spelling patterns, grammar and creative writing tasks. 

This term we will be using our class topic of Titanic as a focus for our writing. We will be using the class novel “Kasper Prince of Cats” and will complete a range of topic-based lessons. We will look at a journalistic report identifying key features before researching and writing our own based on the Titanic.

As part of our reading focus this year alongside AR, we are reintroducing guided reading sessions each afternoon where we will read and discuss our ideas on the group novel and complete activities based on what we have read.

Following on from last year, we will also be developing our comprehension skills through VIPERS questioning - Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explain/Evidence, Retrieve and Summarise. 

World Around Us

As we begin a new school year, we are starting with the topic of Titanic. Within our topic, we will be discussing what we already know and what we would like to find out. We will discuss what the Titanic was, where it was built and learn about key people, facts and dates relating to it.

Throughout our topic, we will complete a variety of history, geography, science, art and ICT lessons to develop and deepen our understanding.

Homework

We have had a few changes to homework this term. Each week the children will have the following activities to complete each night:

• Spellings - written out with 2 sentences using the spellings for the week
• Mental Maths - times tables
• Reading:
  • Guided reading book (1 chapter per night)
  • AR Reading Book
