Food for Thought Apple Experiment

13th Jan 2026
For our first science lesson in our new topic, the boys and girls were learning about apples. We discussed the range of strategies that supermarkets and advertisers use when selling these products. We looked at the variety of apple types and shared which ones we liked and which ones we didn’t. We looked at the difference between red and green apples and how the amount of Malic Acid determines how sour or sweet an apple is. The children also looked at how the senses are connected and if one is hindered, how it can impact the others.

The children put their senses to the test when they paired up and tasted the different apples blindfolded to see if they could identify the different apples just but taste. We finished off the sessions by sampling different apples and rated them based on sweetness, crunch and juiciness.
